We accept that emigration may be a concern and therefore there must be realistic checks in place, but they need to be appropriate and efficient to ensure we do not deter those who may want to study here.
On Health & Safety, we saw 621,000 injuries at work, around 13,000 deaths each year from occupational lung disease and 1.3 million people suffering from work related illness. Staggeringly these figures, although shocking, are an improvement and reflect a downward trend.
It is no secret that much of the legislation protecting workers comes from or is influenced by Europe.
There is therefore a question mark about the removal or reversal of much of this legislation.
This has already begun under the previous government in the guise of cutting red tape and streamlining processes.
In fact, the current estimated direct cost from injuries and ill health is a staggering £14.1 billion so there are benefits all round to
ensuring a robust protection and improvement to our Health and Safety Legislation
